Professor Joe Clarke

Advisor

Joe is the Director of the Energy Systems Research Unit (ESRU) and BRE Centre of Excellence in Energy Utilisation at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. His research is focused on the role that energy systems simulation can play in helping to reduce energy demand, accelerate the take-up of renewable energy technologies, mitigate environmental impacts and improve human well-being. A major element of his research involves the development and dissemination of software tools for energy systems simulation, and the application of these in design, research and policy contexts.

Paul McNamara OBE

Paul is a consultant to arbnco advising on the sustainability-related interests of commercial real estate investors. Paul was Head of Research for Prudential plc’s real estate investment arm for over 20 years before becoming a consultant in 2012. With degrees in geography from the Universities of St. Andrews and Edinburgh, Paul has chaired the Property Working Groups of UNEPFI[1] and IIGCC[2] where he promoted responsible property investment practices. He is an Honorary Fellow and past Chairman of both the IPF[3] and SPR[4] and a Visiting Professor at Oxford Brookes University.

Nigel Ellis

Nigel is a graduate mechanical and electrical engineer with 34 years in the energy industry with North of Scotland Hydro Electric Board (SSE). Nigel’s career included conventional engineering roles through senior project and commercial development positions, energy trading and ultimately new technology investment and corporate venturing as the Technology Development Manager of SSE Venture Capital Limited.

Through privatisation, M&A, business separation and innumerable market reforms and energy trading mechanisms, it is fair to say Nigel’s career can be characterised by the need to adapt to change in technical, economic and political factors.

Maureen Eisbrenner

Co-Founder CEO & Chairman

As CEO & Chairman, Maureen is responsible for the implementation of arbnco’s strategic plan to advance the company’s vision, mission, strategies and objectives and to promote revenue, profitability for its shareholders and growth as an organization . Under her leadership, arbnco is building a strong team to deliver SAAS products to real estate investors, managers and consultants to make quicker and better informed decisions.

Maureen is a seasoned executive with more than twenty years of experience helping companies and their clients to achieve results. Prior to founding arbnco, she co-founded Cadmeleon LTD which provided technology-based solutions to the public and private sectors including commercial real estate, healthcare and financial services companies. Maureen led the successful acquisition of the scanning division of Cadmeleon LTD to a multinational firm in 2014. The engineering and technology divisions were spun-off into CO2 Estates and rebranded in 2017 as arbnco.

Maureen balances arbnco’s focus between managing today’s challenges and setting our strategic outlook for tomorrow, all while keeping our clients at the center of every decision we make.

Simon West

Co-founder & Director

Simon co-founded arbnco (previously CO2 Estates) in 2009. Prior to that, Simon has either founded or co-founded a number of businesses ranging from telecoms to the Cleantech sector. With over ten years experience in the UK commercial real estate sector, latterly as the founder of energy compliance trading platform CEA Link which he led to a successful exit in 2008, Simon has forged strong relationships in the commercial real estate industry.

Simon’s key responsibility is leading arbnco on business development and sales, both nationally and internationally, whilst also working with the board and advisory team developing long and short term strategies for growth.

Ian is a successful entrepreneur and CEO with a complete set of business skills earned over more than 20 years working with and for private and public companies. He spent the last 10 years leading publicly listed (OTCBB) technology businesses in the UK and USA, focusing on business structure, capital investment, transformation and growth. Immediately prior to establishing Deepbridge Advisers Ltd and Deepbridge Capital LLP, Ian spent 5 years as Chairman and CEO of Aftersoft Group Inc. (now MAM Software Group Inc. OTCBB: MAMS), supplying Enterprise Resources Planning software solutions to the automotive aftermarket in the US, Canada and the UK. Ian successfully led the turnaround, re-capitalisation and listing of the business (OTCBB: MAMS), returning it to profit. He currently holds personal investments in a number of technology companies whose new products are in the proof of concept stage. He holds a Business Education Diploma from Newcastle Polytechnic, and a Licentiateship (LCGI) (NVQ Level 4) from the Royal Navy.

Alan Wegienka

Chief Technology Officer

Alan is the arbnco Chief Technology Officer. In this role, he oversees all the technical aspects of the company including Product Development. He has worked for more than thirty-five years in the computer aided modeling and simulation area in support, marketing, sales, and product development roles and has extensive experience in Asia/Pacific having lived and worked in the region for more than ten years. He is a founder of two companies that developed low cost, easy to use mechanical simulation software. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering from Michigan State University.

He has experience in aligning all financial operations with strategic business goals to drive superior process efficiency. His consistent and in-depth knowledge of all company assets and financial metrics allows him to swiftly identify and realise areas of business improvement.

Some of his areas of expertise include financial management, financial reporting, forecasting, strategic business planning, accounting and many more.

Ross leads the finance and management reporting function at arbnco, supporting the Board through the preparation of budgets and financial reports and provides advice and guidance on financial strategy for the long-term financial goals for the organization. Ross is a Scottish Chartered Accountant and Co-Principle with Johnson Smillie since 1996.

Larry is a US-based regulatory consultant who is helping arbnco navigate the complexities of electric utility companies and state utility regulatory agencies, with an emphasis in rate design, resource planning and customer interfaces. He brings decades of experience in utility, public policy, and legislative issues.

Richard Midgley

Channel Development Director

Richard has worked within the enterprise technology sector for over 15 years, in both direct and indirect sales and management roles.

Working with a range of technology organisations from start-ups in rapid growth mode seeking to develop alliance, reseller and technology partnerships, to established global software providers seeking to stabilise, analyse and optimise their channel partnerships. Previous roles have included a focus up on solutions for Smart Cities, Architecture, Engineering and the Construction sector, skills which lend well to the arbnco solutions, advisory and board short and long term strategies.

Richard’s key responsibility will be to assist and lead arbnco to develop a channel sales ecosystem both nationally and internationally, developing long and short term strategies for channel growth.

Swathi has worked in Business Development, Sales and Marketing roles and has over 14 years of experience in Distribution, Leadership and Management of direct accounts, and C&I Building experience with high end consumers such as Home Depot, Loews, and Walmart.

She is an LED Lighting Specialist with Global, National and Regional Sales experience along with Horticulture Lighting Sales. Swathi studied Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Auckland University of Technology and specialised in Building Systems and Illumination Engineering. She has extensive knowledge and experience in Project Management and Applications Engineering for various big budget projects based in California and all over the US.

He holds a Masters degree in Computer Science, having developed research in Wireless Sensor Networks and worked with Embedded Systems for Network Cards. He always engages with side projects, usually regarding Web Applications, Hybrid Apps, and Games Development; constantly learning new tools. Initially brought to the UK in 2014 when selected by the Sirius Programme to work on an accelerated startup at Entrepreneurial Spark, he has been working with arbnco since late 2014, being responsible for general front-end and cloud architecture maintenance.

Stephen has spent the last decade programming CAD and building energy modelling software for non-domestic buildings looking at ways in which software can facilitate more efficient CAD and energy modelling experiences for the user. Over the past few years he has focused on improving interactions between interfacing and energy modelling applications and creating practical post-process analysis systems for MEES energy performance regulation compliance aiming to aid property owners in making the right choices when considering retrofit options.

Stephen holds a PGCert in sustainability and environmental studies and is currently studying MPhil Architecture with Strathclyde University.

Marc is an experienced programmer with a passion for web and mobile apps. He began his development journey in 2014, working on a wide variety of systems ranging from automated in-house financial software to language-learning, KPI tracking & statistics apps for the commercial, mining and government sectors in South Africa. Consistently up to date with the latest tools, and software and development practices, his ultimate goal is finding efficient and elegant solutions to complex problems.

Marc is an experienced programmer with a passion for web and mobile apps. Pablo is an end-to-end product developer, who creates solutions aiming for good user experience and follows best engineering practices. He has an undergraduate degree in Computer Science and enjoys testing new technologies. In addition to his position at arbnco, he is involved in many side projects and enjoys creating home automation solutions.

Colin Parry

Data Scientist Technical Lead

Colin is an experienced data professional with a varied career from writing and optimising industrial control strategies and automating wind energy analysis, to creating data warehouses and report writing. Most recently Colin was technical lead for data science in a large industrial organisation where he was responsible for predictive maintenance, customer profiling and fleet optimisation. He holds a BSc in Applied Physics from the University of Strathclyde and an MSc in Renewable Energy and Environmental Modelling from the University of Dundee.

Claire Das Bhaumik

Manager, Compliance Products and KTP Supervisor

Claire is a Chartered Engineer, a CIBSE Fellow and an expert in Building Physics. She has worked for a number of leading consultancies and was previously a key member of the SBEM development team at BRE. She has extensive experience in the use of building dynamic simulation software packages for comfort, daylight and energy analysis, as well as regulations compliance.

Claire is a CIBSE Low Carbon Energy Assessor accredited to level 5 for EPC production for complex buildings and has published and contributed to a number of papers and industry publications. At arbnco Claire provides simulation and regulations expertise and supervises a Knowledge Transfer Partnership between arbnco and Strathclyde University.

Claire is a Chartered Engineer, a CIBSE Fellow and an expert in Building Physics. She has worked for a number of leading consultancies and was previously a key member of the SBEM development team at BRE. Andrew has a background in research and development and over 15 years’ experience in roles in both academia and industry, including over 6 years working for innovative university spin-out companies.

Andrew did his undergraduate degree at the University of Manchester before moving to Scotland for his MSc (University of St. Andrews) and PhD (Heriot-Watt University). He continued on an academic career path with a postdoctoral position at the University of Cambridge before leaving academia to join SensL a spin-out company based in Cork, Ireland. He then joined a Warwick University spin-out company before being appointed a Research Fellow at the University of Glasgow. Prior to joining arbnco he was Funding Manager with the Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre (IBioIC). He is a member of the Institute of Physics and is an alumnus of the prestigious Scottish Crucible programme.

Manager, Health, Wellbeing, and Climate Products

Parag is a building scientist with a background in civil engineering. He comes to arbnco from a stint at the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (Switzerland) as a doctoral researcher. At arbnco he leads research and development efforts to incorporate the latest building science knowledge into the simulation products. His work touches upon health and wellbeing in buildings, optimising renovation recommendations to improve energy performance scores, and integrating risk analysis into simulation predictions. Parag splits his time between arbnco and the University of Strathclyde, where he is a postdoctoral research fellow.

Olivia Sobek

Indoor Environmental Monitoring Engineer

Olivia just completed a PhD. in Chemical and Process Engineering at Strathclyde University. Her previous MSc. degree was in Advanced Materials Engineering at Edinburgh Napier University, with a focus on renewable energy materials for use in electronics such as polymer solar cells.

Before moving to Scotland for her graduate work, she received a BSc. in Technology from Excelsior College in the US where she carried out research and modelling of flow-rate sensors for oil distribution pipelines. Olivia will be joining arbnco as a new graduate in the role of Indoor Environmental Monitoring Engineer.

Olivia just completed a PhD. in Chemical and Process Engineering at Strathclyde University. Her previous MSc. degree was in Advanced Materials Engineering at Edinburgh Napier University, with a focus on renewable energy materials for use in electronics such as polymer solar cells.

Before moving to Scotland for her graduate work, she received a BSc. in Technology from Excelsior College in the US where she carried out research and modelling of flow-rate sensors for oil distribution pipelines. Olivia will be joining arbnco as a new graduate in the role of Indoor Environmental Monitoring Engineer.

Indoor Environmental Monitoring Engineer

Graeme did his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering at Strathclyde University, with time spent abroad studying in Sweden and Austria. His bachelor’s thesis studied the concepts of thermal comfort, and the effects of varying parameters on the accuracy of thermal comfort models. His master’s thesis looked into the design, manufacture, and assembly of a lower limb exoskeleton for rehabilitation of patients with a hemiplegic gait. He will be joining arbnco as a new graduate in the role of Indoor Environmental Monitoring Engineer.

Mahnameh Taheri

Manager, Energy Products

Mahnameh obtained her PhD in “Engineering Sciences Architecture” and MSc in “Building Science and Technology”, both with honors from TUWien (Vienna University of Technology), Austria, with a background in Civil Engineering. In parallel to her studies, she was actively involved in various Austrian and EU funded research projects. She gained diverse theoretical and experimental know-how in the light of her research and academic activities in different areas, including computer aided building performance simulations, computational design support systems, building monitoring, indoor climate, occupants’ behaviour, ontology applications, etc. At arbnco she serves the company as  R&D Building Scientist. As part of the arbnco team, she puts into practice the state of the art methods according to the research and development plans of the company.

Loïc Jacob

Building Energy Simulation Engineer

Loic did his undergraduate degree in Marine Engineering at Newcastle University before moving to Glasgow to study a MSc in Sustainable Engineering at the University of Strathclyde. His MSc thesis investigated the use of genetic algorithms to calibrate building energy dynamic simulation models.

Concerns with sustainability and a keen interest in research and technology led him to apply for a research position with arbnco, partnered with Strathclyde. The resulting Knowledge Transfer Partnership will develop a platform aimed at reducing the “performance gap” between anticipated and actual energy use in buildings.

R&D Building Scientist

Sahar joined arbnco to formulate software solutions that accelerate climate action and empower low-carbon, sustainable built environment. She is a LEED AP, building energy modeller, and life cycle assessment practitioner. Her PhD research investigates the influence of BREEAM, BIM, and Soft Landings, on the lifecycle performance of non-domestic buildings. She has three years of practical experience as a Senior Sustainability Consultant, where she led building sustainability certification, carbon-footprinting, renewable energy feasibility analysis, and dynamic thermal simulation projects. She holds a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and has worked on comfort predictions; energy-efficient, integrated HVAC devices; multi-objective optimisation algorithms; and solar-powered cars.

Building Simulation Engineer

Agnieszka is a Low Carbon Consultant, energy modeller and enthusiast of sustainability in engineering. She obtained her Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Wroclaw University of Technology (Poland). Her keen interest in building physics and energy efficiency led her to research the impact of solar shading systems on building energy balance in her master’s thesis study.

The search for change and innovation brought her to Scotland,  where she has worked for 4 years in a Building Services Consultancy. She has gained experience in building simulation, thermal comfort assessments, UK building regulation compliance calculations, building operation and energy performance aspects.

She is joining arbnco as a Building Simulation Engineer and is hoping to contribute to a more energy efficient and wellbeing-conscious future.

Agnieszka just completed a postgraduate degree in Renewable Energy Sources & the Environment. Her previous degree was Environmental Engineering with a focus on HVAC facilities and installations which she completed in Poland. She has working experience in quality assurance of device management systems (ioT) and web applications and is interested in the deployment of renewable and smart technologies into buildings. As a KTP associate she will be involved in the development of a complete IoT solution.

Saleh holds a BSc degree in Software Engineering and MSc with Distinction in Electrical Engineering. He is a member of IEEE and Optical Society of America. He was a member of ILRG research group in University Malaya and Flexilicate Ltd. Saleh worked on Optical Communication, Sensors, Lasers and Free Space Optics and published more than 30 SCI/ISI cited papers. Saleh has developed experience in Industry IT Consultancy and Website Development over the past 10 years. Recently, he carried out research on Optimisation of Triple-Play services for FTTH Networks. He is currently perusing his PhD in Architecture, co-funded by University of Strathclyde and arbnco, focusing on Use of Artificial Intelligence for Optimisation of Retrofitting Plan of Commercial Buildings.

Dr Farzad Rahimian

Datalab Supervisor

Dr Farzad Rahimian is a Senior Lecturer in Building Information Management, with expertise in the mainstream areas of BIM, including IT Integrated Design and Construction, Virtual-Reality Programming for Automation, Simulation and Optimisation of Design, Offsite-Manufactured-Construction, and Virtual Prototyping. He has extensive experience in VR/AR programming and prototyping, and was a key player on one the first and most famous game-like VR Environments for construction simulation.

Farzad holds a PhD degree in IT Integrated Architectural Design Studies and MSc and BSc in Architectural Engineering. He is a Fellow of Higher Education Academy (FHEA), Member of Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB), Member of Regulatory Room of buildingSMART International, a First Class Registered Architect in Iran and member of CIB TG74, W119, and W121. He has considerable research and practice experience in BIM and IT Integrated Construction and Design (reported in more than 85 refereed articles; Cited in more than 250 publications). Farzad has been involved in supervision of several PhD studies. He is the Co-Editor of the International Journal of Architectural Research (MIT) and has been involved in various high-level committees. During his academic career, he contributed to various publicly funded research projects, on issues regarding BIM, Design Integration and Advanced Methods of Construction.

Her role involves managing the planning, execution, monitoring, control and closure of each project for our clients, to deliver a smooth and efficient service.

Karen also oversees the internal administration for the company, reporting to the CEO and managing the overall daily office operations including office management, technology, human resources, contracts and management of administrative staff.

She is a Stirling University graduate with a BA in Accounting & Finance and has ten years’ experience in this field. Julie held similar roles in previous companies before joining our team in 2012.
